Baby with granites what are they? Part 2

Granites caused by sweat

Sweat-related grains are called sudamine or miliaria. They appear when sweat accumulates under the skin.

As they are

Tiny, crystalline content, simulate water droplets on the forehead, neck, armpits and on the trunk. They are so fragile that they break by gently rubbing the baby’s skin

Why do they arise?

Due to the immaturity of the sweat glands, which in the first months become clogged, retaining sweat. They appear because we tend to shelter children too much. And in summer they can arise after a day at the beach, or they can also be caused by fever. Other possible causes are excessive heating in the incubator or very hot environments without air conditioning.

“It consists in reducing the ambient temperature, avoiding overly warm clothes and / or treating fever. You can hydrate the baby without using oily creams, as they make perspiration difficult, “says Dr. Marta Feito.

Toxic baby erythema

Despite the name, it is a benign skin rash. It appears at 24-48 hours of life, in the form of grains and spots distributed throughout the body (except in palms and plants). It resolves on its own after 7-10 days. It almost never occurs in premature babies or babies under 2,500 grams.

How is it

They look like insect bites, they are small red granites (1 to 3 mm in diameter) and other watery ones surrounded by redness and welts. They are usually very numerous and come together to form plates.

Why does it arise?

“It is an inflammatory process without a clear cause, which affects 50% of newborns. The granites contain cells (eosinophils) that are produced in the bone marrow, circulate in the blood and sometimes deposit in the skin, ”explains Dr. Ángela Hernández.

It does not require antibiotics and, although it seems somewhat cumbersome, only hydration is recommended.

Symptom of exanthematic diseases

Grains with water inside, that itch a lot and become blisters. There may be a fever two days before the outbreak. It is not dangerous, but very contagious (by contact with the grains or saliva) from two days before the outbreak until all the grains are scabs.

To avoid scratching (scars remain) cut the child’s nails and give warm baths with very mild soap.

Hand-mouth-foot disease

They are grains with water inside that arise in the mouth and then in hands, feet and heels. Before the outbreak the child may have a fever, lack of appetite, pharyngitis and discomfort.

It is spread orally or fecally, it is not a dangerous disease, but it is very heavy: the grains break and annoying wounds form (disappear in 10 days).

The size of a grain of salt, the grains appear on the forehead, extend to the face, trunk and extremities and are accompanied by red spots. They present with high fever, tearing and whitish granites inside the mouth.

It is contagious from five days before the outbreak until five days later. You can relieve him by controlling the fever, with wet compresses and with a large supply of fluids.

Neonatal herpes and baby impetigo

Neonatal herpes

They are blisters that appear grouped in a certain part of the body, such as the scalp and trunk. If they arise, you should go to the pediatrician immediately to prevent them from spreading throughout the rest of the body.

It is an infection caused by a bacterium in which larger blisters form and tend to break easily, leaving honey-colored scabs, in certain areas such as the navel or diaper area.

With proper antibiotic treatment they usually disappear without problems, but need medical attention.
